FNAC and Virgin on the DRM-free side

January 19, 2007

French online music stores Fnac Music and Virgin Mega have announced the launch of a new DRM-free catalogue on their sites with over 350 thousand songs in the MP3 format.

Fnac‘s 150 thousand MP3 songs are already avalilable at their site fnacmusic.fr, while Virgin decided to launch their 250 thousand catalogue in early March.

The annoucement comes few days before the 41th edition of MIDEM, the international music market held in Cannes, France, where much of music and digital music’s fate could be decided.

Other online stores will now have two more examples to study and determine wether this could be the way to go.
