Downloads Will Count to UK ChartsNovember 8, 2006
The rules of the UK Charts will be changing next year, starting on January 1st 2007.
The new ruling states that all digital singles will now be eligible for the Official UK Combined Singles Chart.
At present, downloads can only count towards a chart placement one week before the release is available on a physical format.
As of January, any download will be eligible for the singles charts, even if a song in question is an album track and not actually released as a single in it’s own right.
The move clearly underlines the growing importance of digital sales in the UK charts.
