Internet grows 45% in SpainAugust 22, 2006
CMT, the Spanish telecom regulator, has released the latest report on local IT, spanning the first three months of 2006. The reports show a jump of 45% on the number of internet lines compared to the same period last year. By the end of March there were 5.4 million internet connections in Spain, setting the penetration rate to 12.4 lines per 100 inhabitants.
Telefonica still leads the market with 75.4% of all new clients, and cable operators 15.9. Altogether the year started with 410.000 new connections of which 365.000 were ADSL and 65.000 cable. It’s also interesting to note that 80% of broadband clients had contracted at least one other service (voice, tv, cable, etc.)
